Miracles in a Tent City: Giving Hope Through a Simple Meal
Today I encountered 2 life changing things. The first one was when I walked up to a tent where some people had just walked in. I was going to ask them if they would like some soup, breadsticks, cookies and water, when I saw them counting coins on the ground of their tent, trying to see how much money they had to buy something to eat. Wow!
The next event happened as I walked into the beginning of a tent compound. You might call it “tent city”. The tents seemed to go on forever. As I walked into this tent city, people slowly came out to see who I was, and why I was there. It was as though time had stopped. The world had stopped. All I could see were people trying to survive. There were no governments here, no wars, no agendas, just basic survival. I didn’t want to leave. For as harsh the conditions were here, there was a peace, even a reverence with this small community caring for each other. They came to me and asked. “Is it okay if I take one to my neighbor? He’s not feeling well.” The real miracle was when the last person came forward for some soup and water, I gave away my last soup. How was that possible to have made exactly the amount of food to feed the whole community.
